Installing OS from Your Own ISO Image

Installing OS from an ISO Image

You can install any operating system using an ISO image. There are two options: use one of the pre-uploaded public ISOs, or upload your own.

Option A: Using a Public ISO

A selection of public ISO images is available on the Operating Systems tab when creating a VM. These include installation media for Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS, pfSense, and utility ISOs (VirtIO drivers, Veeam Recovery).

  1. Go to Add new server
  2. On the Operating Systems tab, scroll down to the ISO section and select the ISO you need
  3. Configure resources (CPU, RAM, Disk)
  4. Click Create new Virtual Machine
  5. Open the Console on the VM Overview page and follow the OS installation wizard
  6. After installation, click ISO Image in the Actions bar and then Return to Disk

The VM will unmount the ISO, restore boot order, and reboot from the installed OS.

Option B: Uploading Your Own ISO

  1. Go to My Images in the VDC navigation menu
  2. On the ISO tab, click Upload ISO
  3. Enter a label for your ISO and provide a direct download URL to the .iso file
  4. Click Submit and wait for the upload to complete
  5. Once uploaded, go to Add new server
  6. Switch to the My Images tab and select your ISO
  7. Configure resources and click Create new Virtual Machine
  8. Open the Console and install the OS
  9. After installation, click ISO Image in the Actions bar and then Return to Disk

Reinstalling OS on an Existing VM

You can boot any existing VM from an ISO to reinstall or repair the operating system.

  1. On the VM Overview page, click ISO Image in the Actions bar
  2. Select an ISO from the dropdown
  3. Click Boot From ISO - the VM will reboot from the selected ISO
  4. Open the Console and perform the installation
  5. After installation, click Return to Disk in the ISO Image panel

⚠️ Warning: Reinstalling the OS will erase all data on the disk. Create a backup before proceeding.

Tip: Use Mount Only to attach an ISO as a CD-ROM without rebooting. This is useful for accessing drivers or additional software while the VM is running.

Tip: If you need a second CD-ROM drive, open the ISO Image panel on the VM Overview page and click the + button to add an additional ISO.
