Resetting Your Server Password

You can reset the root or Administrator password for any server from your client portal at any time.

How to Reset

  1. Open the server in your client portal: Services → Virtual Data Center → your VDC → select the server
  2. In the Server Information section, find the Password row
  3. Click the refresh icon to reset the password
  4. A new password is generated and shown in the same field

The reset takes effect inside the server within a few seconds. Use the new password for SSH (Linux), RDP (Windows), or the VNC Console.

Password field icons (left to right):

  • Eye – show password
  • Copy – copy to clipboard
  • Refresh – reset password

Important: Password Shown in the Portal Is Not Live

The password displayed in the client portal is a snapshot of the last value the portal set. It is not read from the server in real time.

What this means:

  • If you reset the password through the client portal – the new password is applied both in the portal and inside the OS. They stay in sync.
  • If you change the password inside the OS yourself (using passwd on Linux, net user or Computer Management on Windows, or the VNC Console) – the portal has no way to know about this change. The portal will keep showing the previous password, which will no longer work for SSH or RDP.

How to recover if you changed the password inside the OS and forgot it: open the Server Details page in the client portal and click the refresh icon to reset the password again. This generates a new password and applies it to the OS, restoring synchronization.
